No secondary exams this yr: Dipu Moni

Schools unlikely to reopen in Nov

FE REPORT | October 22, 2020 00:00:00

Annual secondary examinations will not be held this year in this prevailing coronavirus situation in Bangladesh, education minister Dipu Moni said.

She came up with the development during a virtual press briefing on Wednesday.

Students from class VI to X, however, will be evaluated and promoted to the next class, the minister disclosed.

They will be assessed on weekly assignments to be given by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board based on an abridged version of its syllabus.

Ms Moni said the syllabus will soon be available on the websites of NCTB and educational institutes concerned.

She, however, made it clear that whatever the evaluation is, it will not bar any student from being promoted to the next class.

There are online and TV classes for students and now there will be a concise syllabus which will be evaluated through the assignments in 30 days.

These are aimed to assess students and help them cover their weakness in subjects apart from offering an extra care for those who lack understanding.

Secondary School Certificate (SSC) students will also have to submit four such assignments in a week until further notice, and respective schools will monitor the entire process, Ms Moni mentioned.

But exams for the students of Technical Education Board will be held as those exams could be arranged bypassing the pandemic for their type of education.
