A storm, packing wind speed of up to 85 kph, hit the capital on Tuesday evening, disrupting the normal life of the city dwellers, reports UNB.
"The rain started around 6pm influenced by the nor'wester," Aftab Uddin, a meteorologist, told the news agency.
According to the Met office, a trough of low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay.
Rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are likely to occur at many places over Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
Some areas in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions may also be hit by rain or thundershowers.
The violent storms helped air quality of the city to post a marked improvement.
Dhaka climbed down to 22nd position in the Air Quality Index (AQI) as it had a score of 82 at 7:02pm, indicating that the air quality was moderate.
Delhi topped the list of cities with worst air quality with a score of 153, followed by Brussels and Chiang Mai.
