One fisherman dies, 30 go missing in Cox’s Bazar

COX'S BAZAR, June 10: A fisherman died and 30 others went missing as 20 fishing boats sank in the Bay near Cox's Bazar coast on Sunday.

According to sources, police recovered the body of fisherman Abdus Shukkur(35) from the sea coast in the afternoon. The deceased hailed from Moydda Para village of Chowfaldandi union of Sadar upazila.

UNO of Cox's Bazar sadar upazila Noman Hossain Prince confirmed the death.

At least 12 fishing trawlers were damaged during the storm.

District administration personnel rescued about 100 fishermen from sea, the UNO said.

The rescued fishermen were sent to different hospitals for treatment, he added.

Cox's Bazar Met office recorded 173 mm rainfall till Sunday evening.

Thousands of dwelling houses and shops of the beach city were flooded by onrush of water.

Heavy rain was continuing till filing of this report in the evening.
