At least one 'Pahari' woman was reportedly killed in a clash and gunfire that took place at Guimara Ramesu Bazar in Khagrachhari at around 1:41 pm on Sunday, according to sources.

The area is believed to be under the jurisdiction of Jhimit Chakma, they added.

Jhimit Chakma made a claim to his party's central finance secretary, Ravi Chandra Chakma, regarding the dead.

Besides, Jhimit Chakma also mentioned that at least four more Pahari people were seriously injured in the clash at the same place and the marketplace in the area was completely destroyed.

In the wake of the clash in Khagrachari Sadar, the blockade in Khagrachari Sadar area was lifted on Saturday after discussions with all parties.

Later, a call was made through Facebook for resuming the blockade in Khagrachari district.

In this situation, the unruly hilly people on Sunday morning blocked the roads in different places of Khagrachari district by burning tires and cutting down trees at the direct instigation of the UPDF.

While an army patrol team was removing the road blockade in the Ramsu Bazar area of Guimara at about 10:30 in the morning, 50 to 60 hilly people threw bricks and stones at the Army men.

Shortly after that, about 200 to 300 hilly people were organised and pelted bricks on the army patrol team.

About 12 army personnel, including the army's Guimara Jan T.I.C. were injured following the incident.

UNB adds: At least three people were killed and several others injured in an armed attack by miscreants in Guimara upazila of Khagrachhari district on Sunday. The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.

In an official statement issued Sunday evening, the Ministry of Home Affairs expressed deep sorrow over the killings and sympathy for those injured, including an army major, 13 army personnel, the officer-in-charge of Guimara Police Station, three other policemen, and several others. The ministry assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice following a proper investigation, vowing that "no offender will be spared." It also urged all concerned to remain calm and patient until legal measures are taken.
