Former National Security Intelligence (NSI) Director General Muhammad Wahidul Haque has been arrested on charges of committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of 1971, reports bdnews24.com.

Following an arrest warrant issued by the International Crimes Tribunal or ICT, police arrested him at his Baridhara home in the city on Tuesday, said ICT Investigator Motiur Rahman.

Wahidul Haque will be produced before the ICT today (Wednesday).

A two-member tribunal headed by Justice Amir Hossain issued the warrant in response to an appeal from the prosecution, ICT Prosecutor Tureen Afroz told the news agency.

During the liberation war, Wahidul was a member of Pakistan Army. In December 1974, he joined Bangladesh Police after returning home. In the 1990s, he joined NSI and later served the Passport Department as its DG.
