Police dispersed on Saturday outsourcing workers of different government organisations by firing water cannons and sound grenades while they were demonstrating in front of the National Press Club in the capital.

More than 500 outsourcing workers under the banner of 'Bangladesh Outsourcing Employees' Welfare Association' put up barricade on the road in front of the press club.

They took position there from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm demanding regularisation of their jobs.

A police official at Sahbagh Police Station told the FF that they had requested the demonstrating outsourcing workers to leave the road considering suffering of the passengers. But the protesters expressed resolve not to leave the road until their demands were met.

Police then fired water cannons and five rounds of sound grenades to disperse the demonstrators at around 5:30 pm.

A person, preferring not to be named, said that he has been working at a government organisation for over the past 10 years; and hundreds of several  others like him are also employed at different government organisations through outsourcing.

They have been facing uncertainty; so they have been waging movement demanding regularisation of their jobs.
