Police seize 3 kg gold, 92 mobiles from 5 at HSIA

The members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested five persons with around three kilograms of gold and 92 mobile sets worth Tk 20 million for evading customs taxes at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, the armed police members arrested the five passengers who returned from Dubai by an Emirates Airlines flight in the morning.

They were nabbed when they were leaving the airport through green channel without paying customs taxes.

Upon suspicion, the APBn members challenged them and seized the gold and the mobile handsets from them.

The arrestees are: Md Amir Hossain (50), Mahbub Rahman (35), Abdur Rahman Sarkar (46), Md Jakir Hossain (30) and Abdur Rahman (38).

Additional Superintendent of Police at Hajrat Shahjalal Airport Md Alamgir Hossain told the FE that a case was filed under special power act against the five persons.
