Positivity rate dips below 10pc in BD

The country reported 24 more Covid-linked deaths with 2,584 fresh cases, the lowest in five months, in the last 24-hour period ending at 8:00am on Friday amid a downtrend trend in cases.

The daily positivity rate declined to 9.31 per cent from Thursday's 10.24 after testing 27,692 samples during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

On Thursday, Bangla-desh reported 20 Covid-linked deaths with 3,539 fresh cases.

With the latest figures, total number of coronavirus related deaths reached 28,931 while the number of positive cases increased to 1,929,154, the DGHS data showed.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 27,765 samples were tested at 874 labs across the country - both public and private ones - while the total number of tests reached 13,158,764.

The positivity rate against the number of tests dropped to 9.31 per cent from 10.24 per cent a day earlier while overall positivity rates stood at 14.66 per cent.

In the meantime, some 9,988 individuals recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 1,737,858.

Overall recovery rate now stood at 90.08 per cent while mortality rate was static at 1.50 per cent.

Among the new deceased, 17 were men and seven women. Among them, 14 were from Dhaka division, three each in Chittagong and Sylhet, two in Rajshahi and one each in Khulna and Rangpur divisions. Barishal and Mymensingh divisions saw no deaths on the day.

On January 28, Bangladesh registered the highest daily positivity rate of 33.37 per cent with 15,440 positive cases and 20 fatalities.
