Quader blames fundamentalists for Liton murder

January 02, 2017 00:00:00

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Sunday that fundamentalists killed lawmaker Monjurul Islam Liton in a planned way, reports BSS.

He made this remark at a press briefing after the presidium meeting of the party at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's political office at Dhanmodi in the city.

"Initially, we observed that it's a cowardice incident committed by the fundamentalist elements. The vested elements would have to pay high price for their misdeeds," Quader said.

He termed the killing a "barbaric attack" that took place when the people of the country were busy with celebration of the English New Year.

"We should resist those who are trying to catch fish in troubled water by giving shelter to the killers. They must be defeated so that no vested elements could try to halt the ongoing development works in the country," Quader observed.

The AL general secretary also condemned the attack on ZA Mahmud, the publicity and publication secretary of Khulna City Awami League, who escaped unhurt after a group of unidentified miscreants opened fire on him in the metropolis yesterday morning.
