The Bangladesh Railway (BR) has planned to resume all train services gradually, starting with the container services today (Monday).
BR Director General Sardar Shahadat Ali said commuter and mail train operations will resume tomorrow (Tuesday) and the intercity rail services from August 15.
The DG also said freight train movement has been given priority as containers have been piled up at the inland depot due to the shutdown of train movement.
BR Director (Public Relation) Nahid Hasan Khan told the FE that tickets of the intercity trains will be available both online and at counters from Monday.
On July 18, rail service was halted for an indefinite period as per a BR directive after Anti-Awami League activists damaged trains, stations, signals, level crossing, and rail compartment during the Quota Reform Movement.
On August 1, the BR partially resumed operations of the commuter, local, and mail train services on short distances during part of the day when curfew was declared to be relaxed daily.
On August 3, the services were suspended again after the Quota Reform Movement gained momentum.
