RMG workers’ demo creates chaos in city

Workers of Gold Star Design Limited, an apparel factory staged demonstration at Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue in capital's Farmgate area for half an hour Monday, demanding their arrear wages, police and eyewitnesses said.

The agitation caused huge traffic congestion in the area creating serious disruption in movement of vehicles in the city's important business hub.

The workers withdrew their agitation as the RMG factory owner gave assurance to pay the arrears wages for four months within April 25, they said.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Tejgaon Police Station Sentu Miah told the FE that several hundred workers of the factory halted traffic movement on the avenue for half an hour at about 2:00pm.

A total of 400 workers are now working at the factory, he added.

The traffic movement was normal after they stopped their protest, the police officer said.
