Demand for compensation

Sanofi staffers start stoppage from today

Tension runs high among Sanofi staffers for no signs of any positive response to their demand for compensation and other benefits before the French drug goliath's exit from Bangladesh.

Having failed to receive any assurances from the management to this effect, sources said, aggrieved salespersons decided on Sunday to observe a stoppage for three working days.

They come out on strike for today (Monday), Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday will not be counted as it is a Durga Puja holiday.

Confirming their fresh movement, the people involved with Sanofi Bangladesh said they have been claiming compensation and benefit packages since a Financial Express report on Sanofi's wind-up last month.

Hot on the heels of another unfruitful meeting at Sanofi's Segunbagicha headquarters, an employee said the management did not give any concrete reply to their demand for financial benefits.

"So, we're ready to register a protest to realise our legitimate demand. We've decided to observe a work stoppage for three days from Monday."

"That means the supply and sale of Sanofi products across the country will be shut," the employee said.

They have given the management a three-day ultimatum to accept their demand to avoid any tougher protest.

More than 520 people are engaged in maintaining the supply and sale of life-saving drugs of the company across the country.

On September 14, the FE carried out an article on Sanofi's decision to wrap up its Bangladesh operations after six decades of producing pharmaceutical products.

Soon, the employees staged a protest at its head office seeking a concrete response from the management regarding the media report.
