SC, law minister 'do not know' when Sinha will return

November 11, 2017 00:00:00

The Supreme Court does not know when Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha will return from abroad as his leave, taken following criticism by the ruling party over the 16th constitutional amendment verdict, has ended, reports bdnews24.com.

Law Minister Anisul Huq, too, says he has no information about the time of the chief justice's return or whether his leave will be extended.

Speculations, however, have begun to swirl again over Justice Sinha's return as it ended on Friday.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam have said several times that he seen no possibility of Justice Sinha returning as chief justice as his colleagues in the Appellate Division 'do not want to work with him' following allegations of corruption against him.

Chief Justice Sinha sat in his office for the last time on Aug 24 before the annual vacation of the apex court started.

The government announced his 'sick' leave on Oct 3, a day before the holiday ended.
