Members of a parliamentary standing committee asked the government to relax security check and arrange separate queues for VIPs, including MPs, at Bangladesh airports, reports bdnews24.com.

In response to the request of the members of the committee on civil aviation and tourism ministry at a meeting on Sunday, the ministry said a decision would not be made unless orders are made by the high-ups.

The committee discussed airport security in the meeting, one of the MPs who attended it told the news agency on condition of remaining unnamed.

Security check is necessary at the airports, but the rule of unbuckling waist belts and taking out shoes can be relaxed for the VIPs, an MP told the meeting.

The MP also said separate queues for security check can be formed for the VIPs.

"The other members of the committee agreed and requested the ministry to take steps," the MP who spoke to the news agency said.

The authorities have tightened security checks at domestic airports following widespread criticism after a young man passed the security barrier with a toy pistol at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport and hijacked a plane on February 24.

"Everyone must go through security checks. But we've asked personnel to be careful so that no VIP faces any embarrassment during the checks," Syeda Rubina Akter MP told the media after the meeting.

Committee chief RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury and members State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali, Mosharraf Hossain and Asheq Ullah Rafiq were also present.
