Student dies as covered van runs over her

A college student died in a road crash in Gazipur after a covered van ran her over, reports bdnews24.com.

The student has been identified as 21-year-old Farzana Akhter Mim. A resident of the Borobari neighbourhood, Mim was a student of Tongi Safiuddin Sarker Academy and College.

The covered-van ran over the student while she was crossing the road in Borobari around 12pm on Saturday. She was taken to Tongi Hospital where doctors declared her dead.

An angry mob beat the trucker's assistant and torched the vehicle. The accident comes at a time when thousands of students launched a nationwide campaign for safe roads, prompted by the death of two students in a Dhaka bus accident.

Meanwhile, a madrasa teacher, named Zabbar Ali, died after an autorickshaw hit his motorbike in Thakurgaon's Ranisankail Upazila.

Ali, 40, was heading to the madrasa in Haripur Upazila.

Police arrested the autorickshaw driver, Farazul Islam, 25, said Inspector Abdul Mannan of the local police station.
