Students of seven government colleges in Dhaka blocked a major road in the capital on Wednesday, urging the government to issue the final ordinance for the proposed Dhaka Central University.
The agitation began around 2:20pm when students put up a barricade in front of Dhaka College, leading to severe traffic congestion in the New Market area.
Protesters said they were compelled to take to the streets as there had been no visible progress in issuing the ordinance despite holding three rounds of discussions with the Ministry of Education. They also brought out a protest march from Dhaka College to Eden Mohila College.
The students later dispersed but warned that they would continue their movement until their demands are met.
