The government has asked Petrobangla to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to consumer goods manufacturers for seamless production, officials said.
Power, energy and mineral resources ministry recently issued a letter to the state agency to take effective steps to this end.
"We've recently received a letter from the energy and mineral resources ministry and already taken necessary action," said a high official of Petrobangla.
The instruction came following commerce ministry's request as producers of consumables, including sugar, edible oil, wheat and flour, sought uninterrupted gas supply in their factories.
Leading local manufacturers have been producing a good number of essentials like rice, flour, edible oil, sugar, salt and lentil.
Contacted, a senior commerce ministry official said, "We want that consumer item-producing units get adequate gas supply for smooth production.
Another official has cautioned disruptions to the supply chain of key essential commodities in the market if gas supply is interrupted to the industrial units.
In order to address gas crisis in future and give some succor to the consumers concerned, he said, it is necessary to ensure uninterrupted gas supply.
Inadequate gas supply may affect the producers of key consumables like flour, oil, sugar and salt. Production may be much lower than the demand in the days to come.
