Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that it is the right time to build the nation, as the country has been freed from autocratic ruler.
"We want to build a country including everyone irrespective of their political affiliations. They will be evaluated based on their merits and talents. So there is no alternative but to be united," he said.
He was speaking virtually from London as the chief guest during a final football match of Shaheed Zia Memorial Football Tournament held at Borobari Shaheed Abul Kasem College Playground in Lalmonirhat on Thursday.
The acting party chief said that if BNP is voted into power, they will create cultural personalities, good doctors and engineers, seasoned politicians and skilled players by arranging different talent hunt programmes like Notun Kuri that was introduced during the tenure of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
"We'll select some local and international games and create world-class players. We must reduce our dependency on foreign players. All these initiatives will be implemented under state sponsorship," he said.
BNP Organising Secretary Asadul Habib Dulu presided over the event which was also attended, among others, by Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas and party leader Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Anie.
