Trader, his sister injured in city shooting

A trader and his sister were shot and injured in front of the latter's house in Pallabi area of the capital early Saturday.

The victims were identified as Md Jasim Uddin (44) and his sister Shahinur Begum (32), according to a police official of Pallabi Police Station.

Jasim Uddin said he is a furniture trader who lives with his family at Kashimpur in Gazipur and was on a visit to his sister's house at Pallabi when the attack took place.

He said associates of Sohag, the mugger who was nabbed by police with his help five days ago, made threats to him prior to the attack.

Sohag's associates, identified as local men: Sharif, Tuhin, Shahidul, Sujan, and Riaz, got involved in an argument with Jasim Uddin, and Shahidul allegedly opened fire at one point.

Jasim Uddin suffered gunshot wounds below both knees, while his sister was shot in her right leg below the knee when she came out of her house to intervene.

The victims were initially rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital and were later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

Jasim's sister was released after treatment.

Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam said that they took initiatives to nab the culprits.
