CHITTAGONG, Dec 27: Transport workers have called a daylong strike in greater Chittagong tomorrow, following a clash between workers of two feuding groups on Tuesday.

Leaders of the regional committee of the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation today said buses, mini buses, coaches, auto-tempos and auto-rickshaws will be off the roads in all routes of five districts - Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban.

However, all the cargo vehicles are exempted from the programme, they said.

A leader of the federation said two workers' organisations have been claiming control over plying of buses and mini buses on the city route number 13 in areas from Bishwa Road Nimtala to Baro Pool, Sagorika and City Gate via Alangkar.

The Chittagong-Sitakunda Auto Tempo Workers Union leaders claimed that they have got route permit to operate on the route while Chittagong Auto Rickshaw Auto Tempo Workers League said they have been allowed to operate vehicles on the route.
