The trial proceedings of 17 cases against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will now be held at a special court set up in Keraniganj Central Jail in Dhaka, report agencies.

The former prime minister, sentenced to 17 years in jail in two corruption cases, is now undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

The law, justice and parliamentary affairs ministry issued a notice for transferring the trial court, Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kazol said on Monday.

The former prime minister was transferred to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital for treatment on April 01 after spending more than a year in jail following conviction in two corruption cases.

During this period, a temporary court was set up near the old jailhouse on Nazimuddin Road to conduct the trial against Khaleda.

The hearings will now be transferred to the new jailhouse in Keraniganj.

A makeshift court will be set up in front of Keraniganj Central Jail's Building No. 2 to continue the hearings of the graft and other cases against the BNP chairperson for security reasons, ACC lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajol said.
