Two die, 125 hospitalised

Dengue fever has so far claimed 50 lives this year, as two more deaths were reported while 125 patients were hospitalised with the disease in the past 24 hours until Friday morning.

With the new cases, the total number of dengue patients reached 13,000-mark this year, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed in its regular bulletin.

Of the latest hospitalised cases, 92 were reported in Dhaka and 33 outside Dhaka city.

Among them, five were reported in Mymensingh division, 16 in Chattogram, seven in Khulna, two in Rajshahi, one in Barishal, and two in Sylhet division.

Currently, 1,514 patients -- including 1,174 in Dhaka city and 340 in other parts of the country -- are under medication in the hospitals to recover from the mosquito-borne disease.

So far, 11,436 patients have been released from the hospitals after successful treatment.

The dengue situation has been worst in September, as almost half of the total or 6,819 patients were hospitalised in this month. Besides, 29 deaths have been reported so far. Some 11 deaths were reported in August, nine in July, and one in June.
