Cops recover two bodies in Cox's Bazar

KHAGRACHHARI, June 12 (UNB): Two people went missing as an engine-run boat capsized in the Maini River at Hasinsonpur in Dighinala upazila on Tuesday afternoon.

The victims are Anupam Chakma, 35, and Chhiga Chakma, 34.

Officer-in-charge of Dighinala Police Station Samsuddin Bhuiyan said the boat carrying several individuals, including upazila parishad vice-chairman Susamay Chakma, sank in the river around 4.0pm due to strong current while they were going to rescue several families who got stranded due to flood caused by hilly onrush.

All but the duo managed to swim ashore, he said.

Meanwhile, another report from Cox's Bazar says: Police on Tuesday recovered two bodies from Sea-in point and Inani beach of Bay of Bengal sea beach in the district.

Identities of the bodies could not be known immediately.

Cox's Bazar Additional Police Superintendent, Md Afruzul Haque Tutul said around 4.0 pm locals spotted one body floating on the sea water and informed police.

Meanwhile, Officer-in-charge of Ukhia Police Station Abul Khayer said around 3.0 pm local people spotted another body on Inani beach and informed police.

The body has started decomposing as those remained in water for long time, he said.
