The World Trade Centre (WTC) will make its dashing footprint in Dhaka with the silhouette of an under-construction 50-storey skyscraper near the scenic Hatirjheel Lake in the metropolis.

The primary infrastructure development work on the TK 50-billion project has already started, said Shakawath Hossain, chief executive officer (CEO) of Unique Hotel and Resorts PLC (UHL), told the FE.

This multi-purpose commercial centre will have office space and luxury service apartments among other modern amenities and comforts, according to him.

The UHL, also the owner of Westin Dhaka, Sheraton Dhaka and HANSA, has already bought 100 kathas of land beside the lake for the hospitality project.

Necessary approval for building the facility was earlier granted by the authorities concerned, Mr Hossain told the FE.

WTC establishments are part of the World Trade Centres Association, which offers trade and investment opportunities for commercial property developers, economic development agencies and businesses looking to connect globally.

The WTC is part of an 'international ecosystem' of global connections, iconic properties and integrated trade services under the umbrella of a prestigious brand.

The exclusive 'World Trade Centre' and WTC-branded properties and trade service organisations are located in more than 90 countries and supported by 15,000 WTC professionals that deliver integrated, reciprocal resources.

About their future plan, Mr Hossain said the UHL has also started work to run a five-star resort under the brand of Taj Exotica in Kuakata, a tourist spot in the southern part famed for its sea beach.

Taj Exotica, a leading international hotel and resort brand, will have a country club and golf filed in its Kuakata resort.

Mr Hossain said the UHL Group is going to start two five-star hotels at Gulshan 2 under the Taj brand.

Besides, the construction of the first seven-star hotel brand, St Regis, which will be operated by the group, is also going on.

"We're expecting to open it in a couple of years," the UHL CEO said, adding that the minimum tariff of a room of St Regis might be around 400 US dollars.

St Regis Hotels and Resorts is an American multinational luxury hotel chain, owned and managed by Marriott International.

Mr Hossain is the youngest professional in the industry who has been assigned to manage three leading hotel brands in Bangladesh as the CEO.
