DINAJPUR, Sept 18 (UNB): Workers of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant threatened on Tuesday to go on an indefinite strike from September 24 if the authorities do not recruit local workers by September 23.

They also threatened to block the highway and railway line in the district.

Abu Syed said that local workers have gained experience and also developed their skills by this time working on a temporary basis and they have the right to be appointed at the power plant.

"But the authorities are recruiting outsiders," he alleged.

Bangladesh Trade Union of Phulbari General Unit Secretary Nur Alam Siddique, among others, was present at the press conference.
