Warm up this Winter with a smoky BBQ party

NOWSHABA ACHAL | January 01, 2025 00:00:00

Seize the chance to host a charming event by embracing the winter season. A barbecue party unites people more than just a meal. Combining the comforting charm of the chilly weather with the tempting appeal of grilled, smoky food, a winter BBQ party is an ideal way to unite friends and family.

There is no better environment than the sizzling grill, friends' laughter, and the scent of smoky, char-grilled treats. These tips can help you transform a typical barbecue into an unforgettable event that people will rave about for years.

Assemble your friends and plan the party

Start by carefully choosing those who will attend and encouraging teamwork to make your winter BBQ successful. The success of a fantastic barbecue depends on everyone pitching in and sharing the costs and duties.

Choose a convenient and accessible venue for everyone attending and decide who will host the party first. After the host is settled, collaborate to create a menu and a budget that works for everyone.

Lastly, tasks should be assigned according to individual skills and expertise.

"I hosted a BBQ party last weekend. While making the initial plan for the BBQ party, my friends and I tried to divide the duties evenly among each participant. That is how no particular person faced the huge workload alone, and everyone could enjoy the event. Besides, we planned to wear similar coloured outfits, which turned out very beautiful. However, make sure you wear comfortable clothes," shared Mushfika Jahin, a 2nd-year undergrad student at East West University. Let the grill master handle the cooking, the creative soul manage the decor, and the organizer oversee logistics.

Select the barbeque-style

According to Bengali taste buds, you can experiment with different types of grilling. Begin by selecting a type of meat that fits everyone's palate. Popular choices include chicken, beef, or mutton. For seafood lovers, add fish, shrimp, crab, or other fresh catches.

Preparing the recipes is an essential part of the process. Those who enjoy fiery flavours can opt for a deshi-style spicy tandoori. If your guests prefer, a saucy BBQ flavour with a sweet and tangy blend can be an option. Kababs on skewers are another excellent option to elevate the menu. Options such as sheek kababs, tikka kababs, tangri kababs, or reshmi kababs are grilled and seasoned with flavorful spices.

Arranging grilling equipment

Proper grilling equipment is essential for a successful BBQ party. First, decide if you want a small electric grill or a charcoal grill for a smoky flavour. The following tools are required: kabab skewers, spatulas, brush, grilling basket, and long-handled tongs. Ensure you have enough petrol and charcoal to put out the fire while shopping for the celebration. You can continue celebrating longer if you have more, which will be much better. No matter how cautious you are, accidents can still happen. To prevent any fire threats, you should keep the sand, water, and fire extinguisher at a safe distance. Having a first-aid kit available helps ease your work in the event of unplanned injuries.

Interactive side dishes, condiments and beverages

Provide a selection of dipping sauces, dressings, and condiments so guests can personalize their meals. To make food preparation entertaining and engaging, set up a separate station with a selection of side dishes, salad, sauce, bread, roti, paratha, naan, and a range of toppings. This will enable people to customize their meals and make food preparation engaging and enjoyable.

It also offers warm coffee or tea, chilled cold drinks, juice, and water. Musfika added, "Everyone bought at least one side dish at my BBQ party. We also ordered a chocolate cake as a dessert, and the cake-cutting session was the most fun and memorable one."

Setting the mood with decorations and music

During your backyard or rooftop party, it will grow dark outdoors. For a nighttime gathering, consider using fairy lights. They bring that enchanted feeling of Winter. For a more conventional style, consider using themed décor, such as tablecloths with checkers. Making a photo booth will be fun. Music can make or break a party. Nabiha Tahsin, 3rd year student of BUP, shared her insights, "Continuously changing the song is a hassle. It also interrupts the flow of the event. So, making a playlist with party songs is a wise thing to do." Make a playlist that goes well with the vibe of your barbecue. Remember to change the level to add to the mood without drowning out talks. She said, "Seeing dirty dishes, glasses, and half-eaten food everywhere may ruin the mood and ambience. On top of that, it may be harmful to your health. In terms of keeping the whole event clean, keep at least two designated garbage cans."

Boost the Entertainment

Food might be the star, but entertainment ensures guests stay engaged. Incorporate activities like card games, karaoke, storytelling sessions, a truth-or-dare game, live music or dance performances, movie screenings on projectors, lighting up 'Tarabati', and more. You can also arrange a raffle draw with some small thoughtful prizes.

A successful BBQ is not measured by how perfect your barbecue is. It is about the laughter, conversations, and memories created around the fire-memories that linger long after even the coals have cooled.
