10th graders 'kill' junior for ransom, three held

COMILLA, Nov 9 (UNB): The body of a class IX student, who was allegedly killed by the students of class X for ransom, has been recovered from his school's septic tank in the early hours of Thursday, five days after he went missing in Homna upazila.

The deceased was identified as Jahid Hasan, 14, a student of Dulalpur Chandramukhi High School and son of Aktaruzzaman.

Rasul Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Homna Police Station, said after receiving a call from someone, Jahid came out of his house on Saturday evening and went missing.

Victim's father filed a general diary with Homna Police Station the following day.

In the meantime, victim's uncle received a text message and a phone call, demanding Tk 50,000 as ransom.

Tracking the phone call, police detained three 10th graders - Emdadul Haque, Jihadul Islam, Khairul Alam - of the same school on Wednesday morning.

During interrogation, they confessed their guilt to police that Jahid was strangled to death at a house in Dulalpur Bazaar and dumped his body in the septic tank of their school, the OC said.

Later, police recovered the body around 2:00 am.

The body was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

On Thursday morning, victim's father filed a murder case.
