Police have arrested 12 persons for allegedly committing robberies, who posing as members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police, in the capital's different areas including Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur.
The arrestees are Md Manju (40), Saiful Islam (40), Md Russel (28), Md Jahid (24), Md Jakir Prokash Touhid (40), Md Ismail Hossain (33), Md Hira Sheikh (35), Md Rafiq (35), Md Badan (30), Chan Mia (54), Belal Chaklader (45) and Md Aslam Khan (45).
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Ramna Zone Md Masud Alam informed the development to the media at a press briefing at DMP's media centre in the capital's Minto Road area on Monday.
The arrested persons were nabbed from Saturday to Sunday, and 1,900 kg of soybean oil, two abandoned trucks and one microbus were recovered from their possession.
Arrestee Belal Chaklader is the president of Jubo League, wards no-9 unit of Motijheel, Dhaka. Two murder cases were filed against Belal for his alleged involvement in attacking people during the student movement in July-August.
The robberies happened in the capital's Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur areas on January 2 and Jan 22 when two trucks were transporting soybean oil from Chattagram to the northern part of the country.

One truck was transporting 75 drums of soybean oil and another 60 drums. The nature of the two robberies was almost the same.
He said using a white microbus, the robbers took control of the trucks by falsely disclosing their identity. After committing robberies, they took a truck to Munshiganj and another to Purbachal in Dhaka.
Masud Alam said Jakir Prokash Touhid is the leader of a gang of robbery group, and 10 cases were filed against him at different police stations of the country.
