15 shops gutted in Ctg fire

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 27: A devastating fire gutted 15 shops and an oil depot in Chattogram's Sitakunda area on early Monday.

However, no casualties were reported. The fire caused damage of Tk 30 million, said fire brigade sources.

The fire started at the oil depot in front of Fauzdarhat Cadet College gate area at around 12 am.

The fire spread to the adjoining furniture showroom, stationery shop, garment wastage warehouse, cooling corner, furniture shop, rod-cement shop and some tea shops.

Seven units of fire-fighters rushed to the spot and controlled the fire at around 8:50 am after about nine hours of hectic efforts.

Al Mamun, Senior Station Officer of Kumira Fire Service Station, said, "The loss caused by the fire may be around Tk 20-30 million."
