A total of 222 flights to and from the Dhaka and Chattogram airports have been cancelled in five days in the wake of the latest Middle-East (ME) conflict, causing suffering for passengers. Of these, 176 were scheduled from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka, and the remaining 46 from the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.
The authorities concerned cancelled 28 flights from Dhaka and 11 flights from Chattogram on Wednesday alone.
Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan suspended their airspace on February 28. So, air travel between Bangladesh and the Middle-Eastern countries was disrupted, causing sufferings to a number of passengers.
On Wednesday, Qatar Airways cancelled four flights from Dhaka, while Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways cancelled two each, Air Arabia eight, and Emirates five flights. Among the local operators, US-Bangla Airlines cancelled four flights, and Biman Bangladesh Airlines suspended three.
In Chattogram, on the arrival side, Biman cancelled two flights, US-Bangla one, and Air Arabia three flights. On the departure side, Biman and US-Bangla cancelled one flight each, while Air Arabia suspended three outbound services.
The national flag carrier Biman said it has temporarily suspended all flights on the Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dubai, Doha, Kuwait and Dammam routes until further notice.
