4,000 ASI posts to be filled ahead of polls: IGP

September 04, 2025 00:00:00

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam on Wednesday said some 4,000 assistant sub-inspector (ASI) positions would be filled through both recruitment and promotion ahead of the national election, reports UNB.

Among them, half of these posts will be filled through direct recruitment while the other half through promotions, he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with senior secretary of Public Administration Ministry Mokhlesur Rahman at the Secretariat.

"We came to the Ministry of Public Administration today regarding this matter. Some amendments to the regulations were required which will facilitate our recruitment process," said the IGP.

Replying to a question whether these recruitments are being made ahead of the upcoming election, Baharul said, "As you know the Chief Adviser recently gave approval in principle for the recruitment for several forces. We are now working on implementing those decisions."

Mokhlesur Rahman said a police delegation had come to discuss major recruitments through amendments to a couple of police regulations. A joint meeting was held to make sure the process moved quickly, and if the order could be issued that day, recruitments, including those for ASIs, would proceed soon.
