5,500 volunteers to assist DNCC to create awareness

Some 5,500 volunteers will cooperate with Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in creating public awareness to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes during the upcoming monsoon.
DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz told this at a roundtable on preparations and actions to prevent dengue, organized by DNCC at its office in the city's Gulshan area on Monday, a press release said.
The administrator said there is no alternative to creating public awareness for dealing with mosquito menace. "Therefore, we'll give utmost importance to make people aware of their rights and responsibilities."
Mr Azaz also said modern mosquito repelling devices would be put in place across the public areas under the DNCC jurisdiction. Besides, efficiency of the pesticides, used by DNCC to prevent mosquitoes, would be tested in an independent lab, he added.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abu Sayed Md. Kamruzzaman, Chief Engineer Brig General Md Moin Uddin, Chief Health Officer Brig General Imru-al-Quais, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore ABM Shamsul Alam, other top officials and representatives from various organizations attended the roundtable.
