CHATTOGRAM, May 10: The fifth convocation of Chattogram University (CU) will be held on Wednesday (May 14), after nine long years of the fourth convocation.
This will be the biggest-ever convocation of a university in the country with participation of around 23,000 graduates.
Chief Adviser to the interim government Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, a former professor of the Department of Economics at CU, will attend it as the Convocation Speaker.
Besides, Education Adviser Professor Dr Rafiqul Abrar and University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr SMA Faiz will attend the programme as special guests.
Vice Chancellor (VC) of CU Professor Dr M Yeahhia Akhtar will preside over the function.
Dr Muhammad Yunus, who founded the Grameen Bank in 1976 from Jobra village near CU, is set to visit the university after 36 years.
The CU authorities will confer an honorary Doctor of Literature (D Litt) degree on him that day.
Around 23,000 graduates will be awarded the graduation certificates at the convocation of CU.
Caps, gowns etc have already been distributed among the registered graduates who will attend the convocation.
The programme will take place at the central playground of CU. The law enforcing agencies have already taken special security measures in the area by deploying additional members.
CU VC Professor Dr M Yeahhia Akhtar said, "We have been working hard to make the event, one of the biggest in the history of CU, a success."
He added, "All preparations have already been completed for the convocation. CU is ready to receive our former professor and noble laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus."
