65th death anniv of Maj Gani today

Today (Thursday) is the 65th death anniversary of Maj Abdul Gani, a Language Movement hero and founder of East Bengal Regiment, said a press release .
The veteran military officer was born at Brahmanpara in Cumilla on 01 December 1915.
He studied in Cumilla and later in Kolkata. He graduated in 1940 from Kolkata Islamia College.
In 1941, Mr Gani joined the British Indian Army during the Second World War.
He was commissioned as a lieutenant. As a mark for his bravery, he was nicknamed 'Tiger Gani'.
