At least 10 people, including four barbers and six customers suffered burn injuries reportedly after an air conditioner exploded inside a salon at Alu Bazar in Old Dhaka's Bangshal area early Wednesday.
The incident took place around 1:00am at Arman Salon.
The injured are barbers Shamshed (30), Raju (34), Pappu, (26), and Arman (37) and customers Md Faruk (35), Rinku (30), Rony (36), Jasim (40), Rafik ( 25) and Sakib (17).
According to the injured, the salon's air conditioner suddenly exploded with a big bang, triggering a fire that left everyone inside with burn injuries.
Locals rescued them and took them to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the institute, said all 10 victims were brought to the hospital from the Bangshal Alu Bazar area.
He also said Faruk suffered burns to 50 percent of his body, while Rinko suffered 21 percent burns, Raju and Pappu 18 percent, Shamshed and Arman 15 percent, Rafik 12 percent, Rony 10 percent, Jasim eight percent and Sakib one percent.
Nine of the injured have been admitted to the hospital, while the rest one has been kept under observation.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain later visited the burn institute to see condition of those injured in the explosion at Old Dhaka's salon.
Director of the institute Professor Dr Mohammad Nasir Uddin Nasir said the minister inquired about the condition of the victims.
