ACC clears Jaintapur hills of illegal occupiers

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) with the aid of the Environment Department evicted illegal occupiers from hills in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet on Thursday.

The commission received a complaint that some people had been constructing buildings cutting down hills at Guabari village in Nijpat union of the upazila through bribing government officials.

Acting on the information, an ACC coordination team demolished six buildings there and cut off electricity lines of five establishments during the drive that started at around 7:00am.

The drive was led by acting director of Environment Department in Sylhet Altaf Hossain in association with a four-member ACC team headed by its deputy director Anwar Hossain.

Talking about the drive, ACC director general (admin) Muhammad Munir Chowdhury said, "The hills have been cut down and getting grabbed because there was illegal transaction of money; ACC will continue its drives to prevent such acts."
