The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday filed three more cases against former NBR member Matiur Rahman, his first wife Laila Kaniz and their children on charges of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 1.24 billion and concealing information on their assets.

The ACC filed the cases at its Dhaka Integrated District Office, confirmed Md Akhter Hossain, director general of the ACC.

Earlier, the anti-graft watchdog had issued a notice to Matiur, asking for his wealth statement, he said.

Following an inquiry, the ACC uncovered information about the undisclosed assets of Matiur and his family members.

Matiur and his family members acquired wealth beyond known sources of income, according to the case statement.

They were asked to submit their wealth statements, which they did in compliance with the directive.

Matiur and Laila have been made defendants in the first case. Laila acquired illegal assets worth over Tk 130 million and concealed information on the Tk 15.3 million wealth.

In the second case, Matiur and his daughter Farzana Rahman have been named as the defendants.

On December 15 last year, the ACC filed two cases against Matiur and his second wife Shammi Akhter Shibli on charges of amassing illegal assets worth Tk 111.8 million.

Matiur allegedly amassed Tk 52.8 million illegally and concealed wealth worth Tk 12.7 million. In the second case, Shibli is accused of acquiring the Tk 18.7 million wealth illegally and concealing information on wealth worth Tk 27.5 million.
