ACC launches drive at BRTA Keraniganj office after graft allegations

FE Report | October 23, 2018 00:00:00

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a drive on Monday at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office in Ekuria, Keraniganj after receiving graft allegations.

Acting on graft complaints received through ACC Hotline-106, a seven-member ACC team led by its deputy director Golam Shahriar Chowdhury raided the BRTA Dhaka Metro Circle-2 in Ekuria.

The ACC team, during the drive, indentified several irregularities at the BRTA Ekuria office.

The irregularities were unavailability of citizen charter, narrow space to take driving skills test to provide licence, inadequate number of vehicles to test drivers, and providing fitness certificates to heavy vehicles like trucks and buses without physical inspection.

Talking about the drive, ACC director general (admin) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury said order and discipline on the streets will not come if such irregularities continue at BRTA.

BRTA needs to establish good governance within its offices quickly, otherwise the commission will take stern action to curb corruption and irregularities at the state organ, he added.
