ACC set to observe Corruption Prevention Week from today

The national anti-graft watchdog is set to observe Corruption Prevention Week-2018 from today (Monday) with the theme 'If Corruption Stops, Development will Accelerate' with a view to encouraging citizens to stand against graft menace.

The weeklong event (for consecutive eight years) will be inaugurated by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood on the ACC Headquarters premises in the city around 08:00am.

ACC commissioners Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed and AFM Aminul Islam and other officials of the anti-graft agency will be present at the inaugural programme.

Following the opening ceremony, an anti-graft satirical cartoon and poster exhibition will be inaugurated at the ACC Media Centre that will remain open for all during the week from 09:00 am to 05:00pm.

Mr Mahmood along with other top ACC officials on the day will pay tributes to the martyrs of liberation war at the National Memorial at Savar, outskirts of Dhaka marking the Independence Day. As part of observing Corruption Prevention Week-2018, ACC will arrange debate, essay writing, cartoon and poster sketching competitions for students of different schools across the country at Jatiya Natyashala auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on March 27.

Bishwo Shahitto Kendra chairman Abdullah Abu Sayeed will be the chief guest at the programme.

ACC will host an anti-corruption human chain programme in front of the National Press Club in the city the following day which will be attended by ACC officials and staffers and general people.

The anti-graft body will also distribute the ACC Media Award-2017 on March 28 for the journalists who wrote investigative and resourceful news reports on different graft issues.

Apart from that a series of events including seminars, rallies and many other awareness programmes will be observed throughout the country till April 01.
