Actor Shams Sumon dies

National award-winning small-screen actor Shams Sumon has died after a prolonged battle with liver complications, a colleague has confirmed, reports bdnews24.com.
Sumon died on Tuesday evening at a Dhaka hospital, Rashed Mamun Apu, general secretary of the Obhinoy Shilpi Sangha, told the news agency.
Apu said, "We have just received confirmation of his death. He had been suffering from liver problems for a long time. He was at home, but suddenly fell ill on Tursday. He was rushed to hospital, where he passed away shortly after arrival."
The actor, celebrated for his contributions to television and stage, leaves behind a legacy of memorable performances and is mourned by colleagues and fans alike.
Sumon, 61, is survived by his wife, a daughter, and two sons. According to a media statement from Channel i, he passed away from a cardiac arrest at 6:43pm.
He had served as station head of Radio Bhumi and as director of the programme department at the private TV channel.
His funeral prayers are scheduled for 10:00 am today (Wednesday) at the Channel i premises in Dhaka, followed by burial at the family graveyard in Rajshahi later in the evening, the statement said.
Sumon began his acting career on the theatre stage before making a mark on both television and film. Though he had not appeared on screen for some time, his legacy endures through a string of memorable performances.
