Actress Rani Sarker dies PM mourns

Rani Sarker, one of the most prominent actresses of Bangla films in the 1960s, has died at the age of 86, reports bdnews24.com.

She breathed her last after a long battle with old-age complications, according to actor Zayed Khan, the general secretary of Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association.

The octogenarian actress had been taken to a city hospital at around 4:00 am on Saturday after her condition deteriorated.

There doctors declared her dead, Khan said.

The body of the actress has been taken to the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation or BFDC, where her funeral prayers were held around 2:00 pm.

She will be laid to rest at the Azimpur graveyard.

UNB adds: PM Sheikh Hasinaon Saturday expressed deep shock at the death of Rani Sarker.

In a condolence message, the PM recalled with profound respect the contributions of Sarker to the country's film industry.

"She won hearts of people through movies," Sheikh Hasina said.

The Prime Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to her bereaved family members.
