Ambulance operators postpone strike

January 02, 2017 00:00:00

FE Report

The country's private ambulance operators on Sunday morning postponed their indefinite strike after the home minister assured them of looking into their demands.

"We have postponed our strike until February 01 as home minister Asaduzzaman Khan has invited us to his office at 10:00 pm on Sunday and assured us of meeting our demands," said Dhaka Mohanagar Ambulance Malik Somobay Somiti president Momin Ali. "If we do not get expected results during the meeting, we will again go on the strike," he added.

Private ambulance operators went on an indefinite strike from Sunday demanding stopping harassment and filing 'false' cases by the law enforcers.

They alleged that traffic police continue to harass them by showing various excuses including an additional number of seats in ambulances, use of black glass and extra gas cylinders. They also claim that they face problems when Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) magistrates realise fines from them in some cases on 'baseless' grounds.
