CHATTOGRAM, Oct 19: Labour and employment adviser Asif Mahmud has hinted at a distinct lack of goodwill of government officials to control prices of commodities in the port city.

He stressed the need to control the sky-rocketing prices of essentials.

Mr Asif was addressing a view-exchange meeting with top public servants of Chattogram division and district offices at Chattogram Circuit House on Saturday morning.

"Stagnation due to your non-cooperation was discussed in our last cabinet meeting on Thursday. We may have to make very tough decisions," he said.

After a revolution, according to Mr Asif, nothing goes structurally anymore.

"We are still maintaining the system. We hope all government officials will cooperate with us. We need to break the system. If necessary, new people will be appointed in these places."

Mr Asif, who also oversees youth and sports ministry, ordered the officials concerned to break the syndicate, saying: "If you can't do it despite having administrative experience, we will bring new ones."

Labour and employment secretary AHM Safikuzzaman, Chattogram divisional commissioner Tofail Islam, deputy commissioner Farida Khanam and top officials, among others, were present at the meeting.
