FE Report
Welcoming the release of the summary report of the UN Fact-Finding Mission on Myanmar, Australia has reiterated its call for justice for the sufferers.
Australia strongly supports the UN mission that conducted a credible and independent investigation into rights abuses in northern Myanmar and Rakhine state.
A media release issued by Australian High Commission in Dhaka made the disclosure on Wednesday.
The UN fact-finders conclude that war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide occurred in Rakhine.
The report recommended actions to pursue accountability for the atrocities, the release stated.
"Australia is deeply disturbed by the conclusions of the fact-finding mission. It has consistently urged Myanmar to take action on human rights violations."
"We repeat our call for justice for those who have suffered," it added.
"Perpetrators must be held to account. We will continue to work internationally… through our position on the Human Rights Council and at the UN General Assembly."
The Australian government will provide further comment on the findings once the full report is handed down in September, according to the release.
The Rohingya crisis is the largest humanitarian emergency of the region, with over 900,000 refugees in need in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.
More than 530,000 are remaining in Rakhine state in Myanmar, it mentioned.
Australia has responded generously through providing $70 million of humanitarian aid to deliver emergency supplies to Rakhine.
The Oceanian nation also delivered food, shelter, clean water and health services to Cox's Bazar.
