BD to discuss manpower export with Malaysia

Minister goes to KL tomorrow

FE REPORT | April 07, 2026 00:00:00

Bangladesh is set to discuss resuming manpower export to Malaysia, as Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury will visit Kuala Lumpur on 8 April (tomorrow).

"I have received an invitation from the Malaysian ministry concerned. Discussions will take place there. Efforts will also be made to reopen the labour market in Malaysia quickly. We will share the outcome with everyone. The ministry does not deal with any syndicate and always tries to remain open to all," the minister told the media on Monday.

He said these at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after receiving the body of a Bangladeshi worker, killed in a missile attack in Saudi Arabia.

Ariful Haque Chowdhury also said seven Bangladeshi workers have died so far in the Middle-East war. Four bodies have been received in Bangladesh, and one was buried in Saudi Arabia with family consent.

The Wage Earners' Welfare Board has provided Tk 35,000 for funeral expenses and Tk 50,000 in cash to the family of the each deceased, he added.
