BERC raises LPG prices -

A 12-kg cylinder now costs Tk 1,459

FE REPORT | February 03, 2025 00:00:00

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for a mass-used 12-kg LPG cylinder by Tk 19 to Tk 1,478 from previous Tk 1,459. The new price for February trading has come into effect from Sunday.

BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed announced the new LPG price at a press conference in the BERC office at Kawran Bazar in the city on Sunday.

The BERC adjusted cooking fuel prices for the domestic market based on the Saudi Aramco CP (contract price) for February 2025. It also factored in fluctuations of foreign exchange rates and changes in value-added tax (VAT).

The Saudi Aramco CP of propane and butane is US$635 per tonne and $625 per tonne respectively for February trading. The BERC calculated an average price of $628.50 per tonne by considering a propane and butane mixture at a ratio of 35:65.

The commission has been setting LPG prices for private operators within the first week of every month since April 2021.

The private sector can sell LPG in various cylinder sizes - 5.5kg, 12.5kg, 15kg, 16kg, 18kg, 20kg, 22kg, 25kg, 30kg, 35kg and 45kg - to consumers at proportionately high prices in February.

The price of LPG, supplied through a reticulated system or centralised storage system, has been increased to Tk 265.40 per cubic metre in February from the previous month's Tk 260.90 per cubic metre.

The retail price of auto-gas, the LPG used in vehicles, has been revised to Tk 67.74 per litre for February from Tk 66.81 per litre in January. The price of per 12.5-kg cylinder of the state-owned LP Gas's LPG remained unchanged at Tk 690.
