Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been instructed to stay fully prepared to tackle any situation along the border, reports UNB.
"If the BSF side engages in any provocations or tensions, the BGB has been directed to thwart such actions," the adviser said while talking to reporters at the BGB headquarters on Sunday after attending a rehabilitation event for those injured during the July-Aug movement.
There is no reason to worry for border residents, as BGB is always ready to provide security in the border areas, he added.
He praised the BGB's role during the July-August movement, saying the BGB had shown great patience, compassion, and responsibility during the movement, except a few isolated incidents.
The Adviser also said BGB had successfully arrested controversial people attempting to flee to India via the border and had helped prevent smuggling activities.
He noted that the government would bear all medical expenses for the injured, as the nation would move forward together.
BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui said around 50 injured protesters have received advanced medical care at BGB Hospital till date.
The BGB would assist in the rehabilitation of 107 people including students injured in the movement across the country. As part of this initiative, seven people were provided assistance at the event.
