BGB man drowns in river while chasing smugglers

SATKHIRA, Oct 28 (UNB): A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) drowned in Sonai River in Kolaro border area on Saturday night after being entangled in a rope used to smuggle goods.

The deceased is Lance Nayak Rafiq (35) of Kolaroa Kakdanga BOP and hailing from Kishoreganj district.

The smugglers set up a piece of looped rope under the river water to transport smuggled goods through Bangladesh-India border, said Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed, commanding officer of BGB-33 battalion.

Lance Nayak Rafiq spotted the rope while chasing a gang of smugglers around 9:30 pm to recovere some smuggled goods, said the commanding officer quoting locals.
