BGB man sustains injuries in ‘gunfight’ with smugglers in Kushtia

KUSHTIA, Oct 06 (UNB): A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sustained bullet injury following a 'gunfight' with smugglers in Daulatpur upazila early Saturday.

The victim is Nayek Safayet Hossain of BGB-47.

Being tipped-off that a group of drug smugglers were smuggling Indian contraband syrup Phensidyl at Joypur border around 2:00 pm, a BGB team conducted a sudden raid in the

bordering area, said Nayek Subedar Subrata Kumar, commander of BGB-47.

Sensing the presence of the BGB team, the smugglers opened fire on them. In retaliation, the law enforcers fireed back, triggering the gunfight.

During the brief 'gunfight', Nayek Safayet sustained bullet injuries, he added.

The law enforcers also recovered 93 bottles of phensidyl from the spot, the official added.
