BJKS' 20-point proposal for safe Eid journey

Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS) placed a 20-point proposal ahead of the Eid-ul-fitr in order to keep the journey safe and uninterrupted for holidaymakers.
The passengers' rights body put forward its proposal in a statement on Monday signed by secretary general of the BJKS Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury.
The proposals include withdrawal of unfit vehicles, Nosiman and Kariman (locally manufactured three-wheelers), easy-bike, auto-rickshaws, battery run pedal rickshaws, and motor bikes from the highways for safe and uninterrupted journey of holidaymakers before and after Eid.
Citing news of huge loss of lives during Eid vacations in the country, the rights body demanded a separate lane for long route vehicles.
It also recommended launching rationing method during the Eid vacation, which it observed, could reduce the hassle during the Eid journey.
The other demands in the proposal included setting up of government booths in toll plazas and quick passing system, eviction of temporary markets from both sides of highways, controlling vehicles running from wrong side, checking extra fare collection from passengers, banning passenger carrying in goods-carrying vehicles, containing extortion on highways, checking unskilled and unlicensed drivers.
Besides, ban on restless driving, repairing of risky roads, ensuring proper parking system, rapid rescue management, passenger refreshment facilities during journey and cancellation of Eid holidays of the bodies responsible to maintain road and traffic system were also included in the proposal.
